Well, i enjoyed this movie very much.
It hit home for me personally.

I wondered if i missed anything, about Jack being the pro-baseball player mentioned? I sort of think he wasn't, since i can't find any reason for Jack to lie. I guess i wanted him to be, for some reason.

found it:

according to the director, on the DVD,
Jack in fact was the baseball player,
he just wasn't the same person inside...
therefore his denial...
