I figured it was just a mutt, but he could be some sort of terrier.

Well, to be accurate, its species is "canine." :) I assume you mean breed. I believe it is a specific breed - it looks like the type of dog used in the movie Zeus and Roxanne. I thought when that movie came out I heard the breed named but I've forgotten. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I think it might be a podengo portugues, cause it looks a lot like one. and the one in zeus and roxanne(or what its called) is a podengo portugues.

The breed you're looking for is the (*wire-haired) Portuguese Podengo. There are three sizes of Podengo; "Betty Jane" was played by a 'grande', the largest of the three. *They also come in a smooth-coat variety. Hope this is helpful.
