The song at the end of this movie... (Beware *Spolier* within thread)
I saw this movie on SBS many years ago back home in Australia when I was learning portuguese. I was deeply moved by the movie, specially the closing scene and accompanying music. And now many years later I can still remember that song (OK, I videotaped the last part of the movie, for some portuguese language practice, and watched it over and over again..) The old videotape is long gone, I live in another country, but when things get me down (I want to leave somebody, like today), that song always comes to mind...
All I had to go on to identify the movie was that somebody once told me the actress is the daughter of the actress in Central do Brasil. So I looked up Central do Brasil here. But instead of following links for Fernanda Montenegro to find out who her daughter is, I got distracted and started browsing through Walter Salles' page, because I have seen and loved Central do Brasil and his co-produced Cidade de Deus. I am dying to see Diarios de una Motocicleta (my spanish is not that good, and english subtitles are rare here in Japanese cinemas...). So I was wondering what else he has made that might be worth seeing. I clicked on "Terra Estrangeia" made before "central do Brasil" wondering what that film might be... And there it was!!! "that movie I saw on TV years ago with that song that stuck in my head for years" was also by Walter Salles!
So, the song... www.allmusic.com just told me it must be Gal Costa, because I am sure it wasn't O Rapper (that would be the version that I heard a lot on the radio when I visited Rio in '97/'98...) Is this right? Allmusic.com only mentions a live version. Where can I find the original?
Vou descendo por todas as ruas
Vou tomar aquele velho Navio
Nao preciso, de muito dinheiro,
E nao importa honey...
