Most Hateful Character *Possible Spoilers*

Either David Alan Grier in the second segment or Corbin Bernsen in the third, not sure which character I found more despicable. Grier abused his wife and son for no reason at all (and in such a horrific way), and Bernsen's character was just a racist dirtbag.

reply

David alan, people who beat the crap out of their sons are far worse then any racist. Second would go Bernsen imo. Third would be that thug dude in the fourth story.

reply

I see what you mean but racists are equally despicable as any child abuser too IMO. That's why I have a hard time deciding between Grier's and Bernsen's characters because I found them both equally loathsome.

Also, the three cops in the first story, Tyrone in the second, and the Neo-Nazi cellmate in the fourth (and unlikeable as Crazy K was it's hard not to cheer for him when he punched that idiot).

reply

The difference to me is, the racist didn't kill anyone in the film, all the *beep* he did was verbal.

Meanwhile, the father was beating his son, and the mother. Actions are worse then words.

You could argue that the three cops in the first story were worse, and that I could come closer to agreeing with, since they did infact kill the politician.

THe punch did nothing for me, only because I was hoping both characters would kill each other. You could say I hated them both equally.

bernsen was funny as hell.

reply

I think it would be either the cop or that inmate, or the guy that beat the kid. The bad thing was it even wasnt his.

reply

Tyrone was the worst out of all of them. He seemed the most believable to me.

He sure was. His one liners are hilarious and those facial expressions just make me crack up every time.

"The difference to me is, the racist didn't kill anyone in the film, all the *beep* he did was verbal."

Not all of what Bernsen's character did was verbal. Some of it was also silent insults to blacks as a whole. I mean, he's an unrepentant ex- Klansman who not only moves South deliberately to gain political support from his fellow white supremacists, but also makes a point of moving into the house which was the site of such a hideous act of racially motivated mass murder. I could see something like that, if it ever happened in real life and was made public, as being a major slap in the face to any black citizen.

I'd say, however, that the most hateful character in the film was either Grier's character (To see such a funny actor play a vicious brute who horribly beats his girlfriend and her son for no apparent reason was really disturbing), or the 3 cops in the first segment. They are willing to murder a good man, a pillar of the community, just because he was going to inevitably expose how corrupt they were and put them in jail, and felt absolutely no remorse over it.

Am I wrong or is Benson's character supposed to be David Duke? He ran I think in the republican presidential primaries back in 92, from Arizona, and was actually doing pretty well until it came out he was a KKK grand wizard or somesuch. I mention this because Benson's character's first name in the movie is Duke, isn't it? Also verbal / racial insult does not begin to describe the harm a bad politician can inflict. If people die as a result of a policy implimented by a politician, with the intent of killing them, is he not responsible? It's a good thing we have a non racist president who is doing his best to help Africa and the Middle East :) Clinton was no saint either. On an unrelated note, is everything that Crazy K experiences a sort of accelerated choosing of his afterlife? Specifically, is the neo nazi in the next cell merely the voice of Simms / the devil, and is that why Simms later refers to the cops that kill the three main characters as "some friends of Crazy K's"? Also, am I the only one who mistook Simms for Lawrence Fisburne a.k.a. Morpheus?

reply

4 Me the most hateful characters has too be those cops. I mean they killed an innocent man for no reason but think about it. The second story is about a abusive man beating a young boy and women up. Mostly about ABUSE. the 3rd is about a racist man , but never really does anything that badd. and the 4th about GANGSTA CRIME in a young kid whoo is just brain-washed by society. But the first is not only set on Corrupted Cops but also on Racism aswell. I would definately go with the first story and those douche bag cops.

I say the white rascist police officers(no offense to the members who're white),definitely David Alan Grier's character, that also rascist white man running for govenor(again no offense),and Crazy K.

reply

Why would I take offense? Those characters as they're portrayed don't represent me or my point of view. Unfortunately, even if they are just a bit overdrawn in the movie, those characters and their ridiculous prejudices do exist in real life - something for us never to forget or take for granted.

While all the villains in each story are very hateable, I'd say that Crazy K was the one that took the cake. Carl came in close, if not as equal. Here's why I utterly despise Crazy K. First of all, the guy is some killer with a lot issues, totally heartless and has no remorse whatsoever. I mean, I can hate the guy for killing that dude for not paying him back fully, or for the fact that killed those guys in a drive by when they weren't the ones who killed his friend, but when the little girl came in, that really made me hate him even more. He didn't even care that he accidently killed some innocent little girl who was just playing in her room and got caught in the crossfire. The whole situation with Crazy K was really thought provoking, with the sights of lynching and white on black violence, as well as seeing the souls of people he killed.

As for Carl, he was really hateable as well. Abusive stepfather who hits a boy, as well as his wife. I will say this though: I really admire David Alan Grier for playing this role. I mean this guy has lots of talent, you don't even believe. I mean, yeah, he's one funny dude in comedies, as well as standup comedy, but this role, he really showed that he has acting skills.

DAG was the most hateful... But, Corbin's little racist comments were funny as hell... You could tale black writer's wrote the insults...

reply

Carl!

I'm glad Obama won, but I will not jump on the Pro-Choice bandwagon

reply

Grier. Think about it. He's still making threats after being crumpled up onto the floor! And he still says it's not over! He was STILL going to beat her as soon as he regained the ability to move.

And THAT is where babies come from.

reply

Definitely the cop. He beat the guy up, injected him with drugs, killed him, ruined his memory then pissed on his grave. Yeah, Grier's character was gross but I don't see how abuse is worse than what the main cop did.

reply

There are some good arguments on this thread!

I'd say the racist cops and Crazy K. They all committed murder, and once a person takes another person's life, there is just no amends for that.
