David Duke and Tom Metzger and this film

Is it just that it was too obvious for American audiences (I'm European) that "Duke Metger" was clearly based on the former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke, member of the Louisiana House of Representatives (90-92) or why this connection hasn't been discussed here? The character's surname is of course taken from Tom Metzger, of the White Aryan Resistance extremist group.

Anyway, what was the director's stance on David Duke? Duke Metger wasn't a total crook in the film. There was some serious pondering if he was really accountable for his past and especially that of his forefathers. Maybe the Hoodoo dolls were after him for the wrong reasons?

I knew who David Duke was as a kid when I first saw this when it came out. I didn't know about him besides being in the Klan and being a politician. Never heard of Metzger but I know the word metzger is German for butcher. Lots of symbolism and poetic justice in this movie.

Back on Duke. He had plenty of chances to right his wrongs. He could've left. He shouldn't have been so low and thirsty for votes. I bet if he caved into the protesters it would've help his image and got him even more votes. Ironic huh?

Sad thing about racists like him especially, the cannot and will not go against their true feelings. And won't be pushed around by people they think are inferior. And some won't fake it either.

i picked up on the name connection, immediately. but i honestly never even questioned whether he had it coming; where the dolls were concerned. even if you were to remove the racism angle, you still have some slimy jerk moving into a cursed plantation. the dolls might have come after anyone who didn't fully respect the history of the place. and Duke seemed to enjoy rubbing it in the collective face of black america; taking residence in the place. his aide wasn't any worse and he had his neck broken.

It's obvious. I'm old. Both are equally stupid no common sense and can't face themselves.

I'm glad y'all straightened that out for me. I was confused because I thought his name was Duke MEDGAR. I couldn't figure out why he'd have that name-must pay closer attention!
