I dont get the name of this movie! - Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight (1995) Discussion

My guess had always been because the main character was a "knight" of sorts against the demons he was fighting... then again for the longest time I *did* think it was "Night" and not "Knight" until I got it on DVD bundled with Bordello Of Blood a while back.

*** and after a bit of reading around it seems public opinion is divided as to whether the ones fighting the demons and had possession of the key were demon knights, or whether it was in regards to higher ranking demons such as Billy Zane's character. Honestly both make a certain sort of sense to me, so I guess its a matter of what you prefer unless the movie implicitly contains a line that states it for certain one way or the other... Now I've totally gotta dig it our and find out for sure.

Judging from the lyrics of the theme song by Machinehead playing over the credits ("I have earned the right, I'm the Demon Knight!") it would be the hero/heroine.

Correct! So there you have it. The "Demon Knight" is the hero, or the key holder.

I think you've got it backwards. I think the above quote suggests possibly that the antagonist was in fact the demon "knight." The protagonist is more like the demon slayer. I do agree that the title could work both either way. I can see William Sadler's character being the "demon knight" here. And I can see it also making sense that The Collector himself is a "demon knight." It just depends what you want the term to mean.

But why would Zane's character make that quote if it meant that the knight was Sadler? How exactly did she bring a "demon knight" over to the other side? If anything, I'd think he might be referring to himself.

But yes, other than that, cool title and cool play on words to create a double-meaning.

The Collector wasn't referring to Brayker, but to Jeryline, who had just become the next Knight, and whom he was trying to seduce.

^This. I thought it was quite obvious that the key holder was the "Demon Knight." Kind of like the term "demon slayer."

A "Demon Knight" was a knight who battled against demons. It made sense to me.

I was recently searching for some new horror/sci-fi authors, and found a guy that wrote some short stories which were used in some EC Comics in the 50's. His name was Damon Knight.

Methinks that the title of this film is a reference to him. Either that, or it's a massive coincidence... :)

Exactly, if you watch Tales From the Crypt you´d know that the crypt keeper always changes the words and make play of words, this is the case.

The name works both ways, but in fact The Collector is meant. Look at foreign translations of the title:

Spanish: Caballero del diablo - Devil's Knight
German : Ritter der Dämonen - Demon's Knight
Italian: Il cavaliere del male - The Foul/Tainted Knight
French: Le cavalier du diable - The Devil's Knight

The name works both ways, but in fact The Collector is meant. Look at foreign translations of the title:

Oh yeah...good reason...because when translations are made, they are dead on....

I watched it again. The Collector says "no one had ever bring a Demon Knight to the other side before", referring to the key guardian. So Brayker and Jeryline are in fact "Demon Knights". Anyway, I always thought of the term to be ambiguous.
