Japanese Character names

I am Totally confuzzled Watching the Uncut version of this in Japanese.

Did Americans get it wrong with character names or did somone screw up the translations cause I always thought

Vega = bullfighter Blonde sanke guy with claws

bison = Shadowlaw Boss

Balrog = boxer

But on the japanese version during the fight between chunli and (Vega) she clearly calls him Balrog and at the start of the movie calls Vega the Lader of shadowlaw.

I am sorry if i am blonde but this totally screwed with my perseption of the film.

Don't worry. Its not because you're blonde. From what I know, M. Bison was the original name for Balrog in Japan. When they translated the game in America, they were scared that Mike Tyson was going to sue for naming their black boxer character M. Bison (Mike Tyson, M. Bison, see?). They changed around three characters' names.

Vega in America is Balrog in Japan.
Balrog in America is M. Bison in Japan.
M. Bison in America is Vega in Japan.

Hope this helps.

I'm gonna get you, like a spaceboy. Whoa whoa whoa whoa!!!

I may also add that the masked guy's full name is Balrog Fabio La Salda or La Cerda, depending on how you transcribe the katakana.

Balrogs last name is never actually given, much like many of the SF cast. SF II V stinks and can not be used as a resource. Check out ALL ABOUT CAPCOM or STREET FIGHTER ETERNAL CHALLENGE for a complete history.

From Wiki:

"The series is a loose adaptation of the games, taking several liberties with the established canon of the games".

Nothing bugs me more than a no-talent director/producer taking liberties!

"Vega was given the surname Fabio Lacerda in the anime series Street Fighter II V, but it's not officially canonized by Capcom".

I know, im super geeky for knowing but oh well. :P

Capcom should settle this stupid naming thing once and for all, in gaming forums those 3 are refered to as: Dictator, Claw and Boxer

i think the american names sound better

Vega is actually a spanish surname (El Zorro's real name is actually "Diego de la Vega") so it fits Claw perfectly

Balrog always sounded to me like "Balboa" perfect boxer name

and M.Bison....well, the M has always been mysterious so leave it for the main boss
