Please forgive the (maybe dumb) question.. But what is this a sequel to?

The IMDB title for this movie is "Street Fighter II: The Animated Sequel (1994)" - is that a misnomer?

Just trying to get my head around the street fighter animated movie order.

It's not a sequel, they called it that to link it to the game SF2, which was wildly successful and known world-wide. (I'm pretty sure.)

WTF? "The Animated Sequel"? Where did you read that crap? It's "Street Fighter II - The Animated Movie".

And it's II (2) because it's based on the game "Street Fighter II". So, the anime isn't a sequel to anything. But the game itself was a sequel to the game "Street Fighter".

In this case, they were probably so stupid as to think that this anime is a sequel to the live action Van Damme movie "Street Fighter". Which is of course not true.

According to IMDb.com this is a sequal to Future Cops http://akas.imdb.com/title/tt0106545/. But I am quite sure that is not what you were asking.
