I'm with you. She's alright until she sings. I just thought her voice was... I don't know. Mediocre. Her acting is great but she sings like a cashier in a garage band.

reply

She was doing a PJ Harvey song. PJ doesn't song it any better. What's the problem?

reply

It fits the style... Grunge is similar to punk in that it is meant to be unrefined.

reply

Just curious, but what is an "oriental standard"? Are you saying oriental people are poor judges of good singing? If so... Isn't that a bit of a racist thing to say, especially in a public forum?

reply

Nah, she was supposed to be an unlikeable character to the audience. The gag is everyone around Lenny is not able to see what he sees in her. She played the junky/skank role fine.

reply

Well, not so much ruin but I was rooting for her annoying as feck character to be offed pronto.

I thought this movie had the perfect cast. Juliette Lewis was awesome in this film . She really fits that character well. I could honestly see how she might grate on someone's nerves but personally I was very impressed by her performance. Her singing was great too, with just the right amount of sleaze.

There is just something about her that irritates me beyond your wildest imagination. I still don't know, but something about her face.. :/ No comment on her acting cause she is not a bad actress, but that face arghhh!

reply

I agree, something about her face I don't like. I cannot watch any movie with her without sick.

She does not ruin the movie, its a damn good film even with her.

reply

Exactly!

I think one of the things that keeps her from being pretty is her cheeks. Same problem with Robin Tunney and Rachel Nichols. When they smile it looks like somebody took a big ol' bite outta their faces. Just sayin.

reply

I don't think it's her looks.... she's just a creepy girl and she does good in those roles.

I liked her... until I found out she was a scientologist.

reply

I don't think she was really "HARD" enough for the character she played. I didn't feel like her character was real enough. I dunno, she just didn't fit the part for me in 'tude, body, face

reply

I've heard someone say that before and I can't say she pulls off some sort of amazing performance here but I don't have any particular problem with her. I liked her in Natural Born Killers and I just accept her for who she is. She has kind of a Courtney Love vibe which fits for an alternative singer from the mid-90s, plus her abrasive qualities contrast well with Lenny's endless idealization of Faith.

reply

I thought the point of her character was for Nero's character to be still in love with a character that everyone else thinks is obnoxious...in thats ense her performance was perfect.

reply

She brings down every movie she's in IMO.

reply

She was definitely detrimental to the movie, but it was still a great movie despite her.

reply

I wouldn't say "ruin". But I'm not attracted to her in the slightest and I do think her character should have been cast to someone astonishingly beautiful. And she just doesn't do it for me :/

reply

I think its her best performance.

one of the many reasons i love this movie. rather a.basset ruined (hard word) it for me..

reply

haveing seen her in "natural born killers" and "from dusk till dawn" i got kinda curious about her so i watched some more films with her in them and thought she was a great actress i watched this movie and its not her best, in fact its the wrose ive seen her in the movie has a great story and if your a big juliette lewis fan like myself youll like it. i guess it just depends on the peson.

reply

To have the role filled by "someone astonishingly beautiful" would not have worked. The whole point is that Faith is supposed to be a mess of a woman that he wants to rescue and loves despite the walking disaster that she is. It would not have been believable if Faith was say played by someone that looked like Adrianna Lima. Lewis in my opinion is an attractive female, but in this role she managed to pull off the whole "hot mess" vibe that would have a lot of people saying, "why is he still after that girl" which is pretty much what they were going for. If she was played by some strikingly traditionally beautiful woman, this board would be filled with people saying "why'd he go for Bassett at the end" or "I'd totally want her despite x-issue."

reply

most casting has nothing to do with "doing it for you" its about the ability to act. beauty is relative.

reply

no she is perfect in here same as in NBK

reply

Ah, but all she has to be is beautiful to Lenny. And obviously she was. I generally cannot stand her, but in this and Natural Born Killers I felt she did admirable work.
