how did they do that mirror scene with julliette lewis and the camera

the camera is over the shoulder, but we dont see it in the mirror?

The simplest explanation is that it's at an angle. The mirror is tilted away from the camera, making a V from them to the mirror to the camera instead of a straight line. They're a little past where a person would be to look straight into a mirror.

We see their reflection instead of ours because of that angle. Since the background is dark and the shot is quick, we don't pick up on the visual cues.

If we dont see the face of the Juliette whose shoulder we are looking past, she could be a body double and the "reflection" would be the actual Juliette.

Or a very subtle angle, though thats usually easy to spot.

The mirror scene in Contact, now that was impressive!
