Why the low rating?

This film is excellent and provides a wonderful philosophy regarding family.

Other then it being a little long and having a bit too many of those dance scenes, I thought it was great too.

I like this film. It's funny, it's colorful & it makes you think.
And Andy Garcia is a very passionate man! His quiet intensity knocks me out!
And his fiery-ness is a quick jolt into excitment!! I can watch him anytime!

and there is a shocking lack of discussion on this movie.

OK, this is Samantha's boyfriend and I've seen this movie that she likes many times. I didn't like it at first because I thought the thing withthe mom was too sappy and the dancing annoying. Also, Andy Garcia playing two parts smacked of nepotisim.

The movie has kind of grown on me and I don't mind watching it any more. Samantha and I even say "Sweet Deal" to each other.

I'm pretty sure the main audience for this flick are women who find Andy G. irresistible (like Samantha). Check him out in "The Lost City". That is a great movie.

How's that for discussion?

its a SHOCKING lack of discussion goin on about this here film...Damn that Andy Garcia, curse that handsome devil..playing twins...hasn't he learned nothing from the career of Van Damme and uhh who else played twins in a movie?

This movie would have worked much better if the twins were played by...Morgan Freeman!

or Christopher Walken (actually i would looove to see that movie)

umm ok so lets dicuss the movie...who else thought this movie should have been funnier or funkier or featured more scenes of the two andys together? after all that movie he did with Andy Macdowell "Just The Ticket " worked just as well...that one was enticing as well...now that movie would have worked even better if there was a second additional andy garcia who was also a ticket scalper but on the other side of town...but i digree...

Anyways Andrew Garcia....here's to ya...

PS... The Lost City was ok but so loooong..but the only reason to really even think about sitting through it is because of the presence of one Bill Murray (now he is actually worth seeing in any movie!)

anyways as far as this movie goes...only reason i saw it is because i found a cheap vhs copy of it and couldn't stop laughing at the idea of twin andy garcias...but its not as bad as i thought it would be...it actually nearly works...but there are too many scenes of him dancing...and too many scenes that kinda drag the film out to the point where its over two hours long! I gotta imagine what the Andy Garcia cut looks like....

Is Andy Garcia's career peak where he's starring in movies over or has it been taken over by Antonio Banderas? ah truly one question about latin hollywood men to ponder over

Andy Garcia as TWINS...featuring not once, but twice the Garcia...to quote Pootie Tang about this over abundunce of Garcias present here: "you come not once but many tine taines"

reply

I agree with the dancing comment. I really liked this movie and all the Andy Garcia was great.

I personally have no idea why the low rating. I'm shocked. Apart from the fact that it was double the pleasure because of the twin role, but the fact that he man can act as well. He is just to yummy for words. Get those twins together and I'll take and Andy Garcia sandwich any day!. The story was really nice and bittersweet also. The versatility of his parts was great . Mona, the wife, the whole dysfunctional family thing. I've seen this movie 3 times I think, and it's been awhile so I'm thinking I'm due! BTW, I would like to have seen him expand the small part he played in Will and Grace, I thought that would be a fun storyline.

I have no idea why the low rating. Critics don't always know what they are talking about. 99% of the time I ignore what they say and either see the film or don't - based on my feelings (mood) - not what the critics say/write. Steal big, steal little is one of my favorite movies. Andy Garcia is wonderful actor and the supporting cast is hysterical! If you haven't seen it, watch it!

Work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt & dance like nobody's watching!

I found this movie quite boring, Andy Garcia is a real good actor but this movie stinks from top to bottom, I only like Alan Arkin presence in this one.

The rating is probably low due to the fact that it was a pretty infamous bomb when it came out. Andy Garcia was at his peak and the director (Andrew Davis) had just directed the Best Picture nominated The Fugitive. So, indie company Savoy Pictures greenlighted Andy's vanity project with a $35 million budget. By the time it opened, critics panned it and audiences stayed away. The final box office gross was $4 million and it was dropped from most theatres after two weeks. Garcia and Davis recovered but Savoy Pictures went out of business less than a year later.

The low rating ccan't be explained by critics since its the audince who vote in here, and it can't be expalined by it bombed, since it's those who actually have seen it that votes in here (or at least it should be, but 450 votes suggests that it is).

The explanation is quiet simple. People don't like this movie.

Yes I know, I am bumping a old topic...

Low rating, where? Its a 1 to 10 scale, meaning 5 is an average film, so this is rated as a teeny little bit under average.
