shareShort answer: Yes
shareI heard it was mildly improvised. I wasnt blown away by it, but I thought the camera work and acting was good.
shareYou heard a load of crap. Paul Auster really wrote the story "Auggie Wren's Christmas Story" before he and Wang collaborated for the film. That's what the entire movie was based on.
shareI agree with you about the very consensual, very "correct" moral of that x-mas tale. But on the other hand... it's a x-mas tale... and not one of the worst.
More, it's a story in itself in the movie (as in the script), alike a short inserted inside a long movie. But what I found to be the best in this very part was Keitel's acting. To me it's nothing but a masterpiece of acting. It shows pretty much like he had just done it for real. And that's... acting...
Therefore this is the only part of the movie I remember of years after.

Loved the story at the end - loved the way Keitel told it and then LOVED the way Wang shows it w/out dialogue and compressed under the end titles - the story is very human - it is not fake or too schmaltzy - I love this film - it captures how many lonely people are out there tRYING to connect with others. Paul Auster is amazing.
shareI love this whole movie, but the Christmas Story at the end is my absolute favorite part
It's just a beautiful, perfect little film, all by itself

Messieurs et Mesdames, bienvenue au Cirque du Mousie
Come on, someone had to have dinner with Cliff Huxtables mother at the end!!!
shareI agree. The lame Christmas story was definitely the low point. The whole tale felt like I was listening to the secret fantasies of your standard trendy New York progressive. Luckily Harvey Keitel is so interesting he was able to salvage it a little.
shareNo. It's one of the best parts of the film.
