On another thread, I mentioned an old Glaswegian mate I watched this movie with some years ago. He knew a lot about the gangs but thought this film was quite tame compared what it had been like in his day (mid fifties). He enjoyed the film immensely, though, as I did.

I worked with some young guys from Glasgow quite recently and I believe it's pretty harsh there at the moment, although it's still supposed to be a great place to visit. I'll definately go someday.

Glasgow is like every major city, there are places you can go and places you cant, stick to the city centre and you'll 90% be alright, but yeah we are the murder capital of western europe, which is even more frightnening when you think we have almost no gun crime.

Glasgow prides itself on being a tough town, albeit nowadays sporadic violence is more common place rather than gang violence, it can be a nasty place.

It is also a very cosmopolitan city, more so than most other cities in Scotland. The city centre is fine if enjoyed responsibly, just avoid the "Charlie Sheen" tour and things will be fine!!! Ha Ha! ;-)

I would say some parts of Glasgow, yes. But other parts of it, no.

Its like LA, most parts are fine but if u goto the wrong areas u could be in trouble. Also there are few/no guns compared to LA, but Glasgow has a reputation for stabbings and is statistically the murder capital of Europe.

It has a LOT of tough areas but saying that ive visited Glasgow loads of times and never had any trouble (and im english!).
