Cod Liver Oil song

This an old folk song, sang by hamish Imlach. Its well known in the glasgow folk scene. The song is about man from brigton who impregnates a woman he meets one night in the pub.

In the 60's pupils in schools were given a cup of cod liver oil and a cup of orange juice, This is where the title " cod liver oil and orange juice" is derived from.

I presume the song was placed in the film as an attempt to make it more realistic.
