Chinese Die Hard? **SPOILERS**

I just watched this film last night and it reminded me of a poor Die Hard clone. Was I the only one to notice this? My reasons?

1) Die Hard - Terrorists take over a tall building to get to vault
2) Meltdown - Terrorists take over a tall building to get to jewels

1) Die Hard - Willis fires machine gun at cop car as he reverses away
2) Meltdown - Terrorist fires machine gun at car as Jet reverses away

1) Die Hard - Black guy hired to hack vault codes
2) Meltdown - Black guy hired to hack jewel case codes

Incidentally that made no sense because they were surrounded by cops who knew what they were up to. So why bother hacking when they could have just smashed the glass cases and took the jewels?

1) Die Hard - Terrorists ask for helicopter to getaway
2) Meltdown - Terrorists ask for helicopter to getaway

1) Die Hard - Prisoner release demands are made as a decoy
2) Meltdown - Helicopter route is made as a decoy

1) Die Hard - Bruce Willis tells cop over radio to tell his wife he loves her in case he doesn't make it.
2) Meltdown - Cop tells Jet Li in car to give something to his girlfriend in case he doesn't make it.

All it needed was Jet in a white vest and the clone would be complete :P

Dont forget one of the villains flexing his muscles in front of TV like Will Sadler from Die Hard 2.

reply

Willis didn't shoot the cop car in Die Hard it was one of the terrorists after Willis threw the body to the hood of the cop car

reply

Willis also shot a machine gun (which he took off the terrorist) and then shouted 'welcome to the party, pal!'

Could swear he did...

'It isn't friendly fire if it hits and kills you.'

reply

You sure? He wasn't shooting anywhere. Just standing there with the machine gun.

reply

Because of the security on the jewel cases. If they weren't cracked, they would explode. That's why when the helicopter smashed into the case with the crown, there was a huge explosion.

Which made no sense. The security they used to protect the jewels was to blow them up?

So true it almost becomes false again.

I laughed my arse off watching this film. Brilliant.

'I don't blame anyone for the loss of my legs. Some Chinaman took them from me in Korea...'

It's not a so called poor clone. Wong Jing, the director, admitted that this film was inspired by Die Hard. The film is somewhat different in some ways, especially with Jet Li doing martial arts and heroic bloodshed type of gun-shooting. At least this film wasn't a total copy of Die Hard. Unlike the other inspirational crap they call Departed. Yeah, right Departed is an inspiration.

reply

it's a totally different storyline with some borrowed element. it's quite common in Wong Jing's movies. still, it's hardly a clone, and it's very well done.

It's a straight forward ripp off, come on, you can't go on too literally on "
straight forward ripp off ".
I liked the movie though.

"With great power. . comes . . . great responsibilty".

It wasn't a rip off it was a satire. Sheez, they couldnt have been so stupid as to dress henchman in the same costumes that henchman wore in Die Hard 2 by accident. Just like they obviously selected an actor who looks like Jackie Chan and reference the flaws of Chan in a mockery. This is a satire.
