So Underrated...

So under appreciated.

It's not Verhoeven's worst. Total Recall and Hollow Man are worse than this.

reply

I also liked those.

Including Robocop!

Probably Robocop is his best.

reply

I agree this movie is underrated.
It captures the....ENERGY...of Vegas.
It also captures some of the illusion behind the glitz and lights....kind of a peak behind the curtain.
Plus, it's just good, cheesy, tacky fun. Kind of a guilty pleasure.
It was never meant to be Shakespeare. It was simply meant to be a gratuitous romp--just like Vegas itself.

reply

Yea,

It doesnt get credit for a lot of variety. It kept it real and didnt hide between a big budget glamour like striptease. Where else they love to make it seem like such a glamourous and fun lifestyle. It shows how hard, hectic, and sleazy it really is. All that feminism out the window and hardcore action. They didnt hide away the unreal and non-nudist most films do. The cheesiness wasnt so cheesy. It seemed possible and anybody’s mistake.

Total Recall: 8.5/10
Hollow Man: 6.5/10
Showgirls: 4/10

reply

I have showgirls higher than the other movies.

reply

I would have liked this a lot better if it wasn't for Elizabeth Berkley.

reply

Hear, hear. Why do you cast a woman with a SQUARE ASS as a stripper?!

reply

I never thought of her ass as square. Hahaha. I just don't care for her "acting".

reply

And I don’t care for her ass-ing. Seriously, if your ass is square, you cannot be cast as an exotic dancer. You could be a Jodie Foster-level thespian as you still would not pass the sniff test as an ecydisiadt.

And the script by Joe Esterhasz was atrocious. The guy knew absolutely nothing about male/female dynamics. Some here see this movie as “gritty” and “unflinching.” I was engaged to an exotic dancer, and I have a friend who was a Feature Dancer who performed across the US, and I can GUARANTEE you that Joe never slept with a woman in his life where he did not pay money for it, even if the unit of exchange was a role in a film. Not even in a morgue.

Though this movie appears to be about stripping. I never saw as that and don’t think it was their intent. If you want a great exotic dancer just pay for a cheap lap dance or watch a documentary on tv. This felt more like a story about being nothing and coming from nowhere to making it big and enormous in one of the toughest industry in the world.

The script/ writer was more focused on making a big box office movie revolved around a tough rated subject like pole dancing. The film like in life did show women of all shapes, sizes, and races in all part of the industry. If the movie had been more about dancing it would’ve revolved more on the training and techniques. Perhaps Flash dance, or something. This had a more focus on the seedy side and the behind the scenes and the gritty side. What it took to rise and break-in in such a impenetrable world.

reply

Me neither.

What’s wrong with her acting?

reply

I think that she just isn't a very strong actress. I thought that she overacted on Save by the Bell, especially in her drug addiction episode. Then you have Verhoeven getting her to be so over the top, and to over act her over acting, it just didn't work. I think that many of the other performances were over the top as well, but they weren't as bad.

reply

Because it isn’t a porn.

She was casted on her overall not just on her ass.

reply

That’s a new strange one for me.
Cause she’s the only reason I was interested in it and liked it. Had it been an unknown star I wouldn’t have been so hyped about it. I was rooting for her to be an A-lister and though at first I thought nude scenes and the role was shocking seeing it she wasn’t a nobody and didn’t need to do nudes and Hollywood/ American society has never allowed such films to be main stream as soon as I saw it I got passed by the nudity. Because it was actually a film and the story was so captivating. I thought it deserved the hype, and was a great daring film. I always puke and think it’s bizarre people hate it and it’s canned.

reply

I didn't like her on Saved by the Bell either. I haven't really liked her in anything that's she's been in. I just don't think she's a good actress.

reply

I think she was alright.
I think the material was hard and she was just a young girl.
I like Tiffiani a lot more but I still rooted for all of them to be successful.

Elizabeth never got A-List support.
Are you a fan of Saved By The Bell?

reply

I watched it for the tits, and I rate it high in that category.

reply

🤣
I’ve seen better films🤣
