I don't think he named it. that was more of a medievil tradition.

No - his sword has no name...the type of sword Harper used the blade of - I think - was a Kinnesthal(?). That's probably spelt wrong...*rolls eyes*

But, no, swords aren't named in the Sharpe books.

kligenthal was one name that came up, it's a type of french sword. sharpes is a heavy calvary sabre (I think 1796 pattern). I wasnt aware that it was a kligenthal blade that harper used though, in the books it's the type of sword leroux used

It's called Sharpe's Sword because Sharpe lusts after the Kligenthal (German not French) blade that Leroux owns, it is expensive and one of the best swords in the world and Sharpe wants it.
After his own 1796 pattern heavy cavalry sword is broken fighting Leroux and he gets injured and sick Harper believes making him a new sword will make him well again. Harper doesn't get a blade from the priest in the book, he finds one in the armoury and remakes it to suit Sharpe, who uses it in the final fight against Leroux (the final fight takes place amidst a broken French square, not the fort) and wins.
In the end Sharpe throws the expensive Kligenthal away and keeps the cheap sword Harper remade for him because it was made with love and Irish magic.
