Weird

Boy that was one weird Sharpe movie.

Watching it, it reminded me more of a horror film than a Napoleonic War film. I wasn't surprised then when I clicked on the screenwriter's name on IMDB and found a long list of horror film credits.

I don't know what the novel is like (I've heard it's quite different) but I don't think this movie even belongs in the Sharpe series. It's just too weird

I'm still watching the Sharpe films in order. I hope the series only gets better from here!

Agreed it was my least favourite in the entire series by far. I absolutely love the others, aside from the newer ones which I haven't seen. I hope you enjoyed them, they're a lot of fun. As for the book it is incredibly different but I read it so long ago I don't even remember the basic plot.

Personally, i really like the fact that "Gold" is so differebt from the others in the series: a bit of variation is never any harm, and why would you want all 16 movies to follow the same genre formula anyway? That'd get very boring, very fast.

Loved the Conquistador / Aztec element in this one. And any series having a contribution from the great Nigel "Quatermass" Kneale should be proud. I know that the book is supposed to be very different, and i have it but not read it yet: i'm watching all the movies before i dive into the books from the start!
