Hunh...why didn't Sharpe + Co. kill Loup?

In the firing squad scene...why didn't Sharpe and the Chosen Men just waste Loup? There were only a few of his men with him on horseback. Surely not "morality," as they had no problem killing his two men, so I just couldn't figure out why a few placed Baker bullets didn't go flying at that point?

Just watched this and I was wondering the same thing.

Loup came under a flag of truce. That would have been outright criminal and against the laws of war and arguably decency. Sharpe and his men were convinced that the two soldiers they'd caught deserved to die for massacring the old and the babies of the village. It's like why those in prison are targeted for their specific crimes over others. Even the most violent and cruel places have some kind of morality that they follow.
