Gene Siskel gave away the identity of the killer! (SPOILER)

That was the one thing Siskel did that really got me steamed. I read Roger Ebert's review and he made it a point to mention that he wouldn't reveal the identity of the killer. As fate would have it, was reading Siskel's mini-reviews as I was talking to a friend who saw a sneak preview of the movie. My friend was saying that I would never guess who the killer was just as I read Siskel saying "Kevin Spacey stands out as the killer".😠

Why were you steamed? You don't really see him until you know it's him :-/ it's not a mystery or anything

If you look back at the posters for the movie back then, Spacey's name isn't shown. Also, throughout the movie, we never get a clear look at John Doe. In fact, it was Spacey's idea to keep his name off of promotional materials. So it's quite obvious that the movie's makers wanted the identity of the killer to be a big surprise until Doe comes into the police station. If I hadn't known who was playing Doe before going in, the reveal would have been much more of a jolt.
