Cinematography

Does anyone else find the cinematography extremely good looking? The movie looks so effing sleek and sharp by 1994/1995 standards. It looks even better than other stuff released later in the decade.

This and Fight Club were ahead of its time, cinemetographically speaking.

Yup.

Even though the onscreen 90s technology has dated, the cinematography is so modern that the film looks like a period piece, like Zodiac.

I agree. You can also put the cinematography of the Coen Brothers movies because of Roger Deakins DP'ing.

David Fincher has an extreme creative eye. The Game with Michael Douglas was great too.

I love the cinematography in Se7en. It has a distinctly grimy, yet slick look to it and it has helped the movie age well. Same goes for Fight Club.

Darius Khondji, the cinematographer for Se7en, has a great eye. It wasn't until recently that I realized he also shot the movie Delicatessen, another visually stunning film.

Se7en was beautifully shot and well blocked too. It's still one of my top ten favorite films story-wise and cinematography-wise.

I think Khondji is a fine DP and certainly did a Great Job but it's pretty clear after time that this film is more of a product of Fincher than anyone else. From Seven to Gone Girl, Fincher has used extremely Low Lighting with Dark Tones and Sleek Interiors to contrast Outside Urban Environments. Sometimes it's Upscale(The Game, Social Network, Gone Girl), others it's the Grime (Seven, Fight Club, Zodiac)... But it's his usual style. Cronenwenth has captured this in pretty much all of his work since Seven. It works great with the Digital Filmmaking Fincher has embraced.

Judging by the dvd bonuses, a lot of time is devoted to cinematography for sure.
