It had grossed 48 million yen in Japan as of 15 December 1996, and it grossed $5.7 million in the US. IMDb doesn't have figures posted for any other countries. The admissions figures show that it also played in France, the Netherlands, and Portugal; no doubt that's an incomplete list as well.
Add to that the fact that its budget figure is an estimate, and I think I can firmly state that we just don't friggin' know.

Lazy + smart = efficient.
It's one of those films that IMO if a little more money had been spent on publicity, may well have seen much higher box office returns. I for one, didn't realise it had such a multi-layered, involved and quite interesting storyline.🐭
