I quite liked this movie, but though it suited the movie's plot by allowing for a later twist, why would the screamers, especially Becker, get involved in killing all the Davids? Why wouldn't he just take that opportunity offered in the heat of the battle to shoot Joe and Ace in the back? By this time he knows they are the last humans remaining. There's no need to carry on the charade, as all the bunker humans are clearly dead.🐭
shareIt has been awhile since I have seen the movie, but I believe the screamers were bound by their programming. If I am recalling correctly he was designed to act wounded in the heat of battle to lure his allies to him then he was supposed to assassinate his rescuers. I guess to shoot them in the back would have violated his directive?
shareIn the Philip K Dick novel, the story ends with the implication that the AMS's second variety will go to war against the first variety. In the movie things are a bit more muddled, although Hendrickson makes a similar remark of "You're coming up in the world". Why Becker didn't kill the team when he had numerous chances is a mystery. Being that they are machines I guess the central Screamer intelligence or whatever leads them isn't concerned with destroyed Screamers since they can probably just be scavenged and rebuilt. Jessica's presence also opens up a whole can of worms. In the book, she is killed and replaced with an AMS. But in the movie, you have to wonder what her deal was.
