Proof that a movie is bad.....

....when there are no posts for it on the IMDb board.

But I thought it deserved one, just one.

Actually it's about just six or just seven...
Anyway this thing was on tonight and I've heard the book is pretty good, but I thought Demi Moore is in it so how good can it be?
Not very then, I guess from the above. I think I'll just read a good book (or a good website probably).

The best thing about this movie is Gary Oldman's performance(and the horses, as I'm quite the equestrian lol). That's the only reason I bought it(well, and Suncoast was having a 2 for $20 sale, and I got that, since I love Gary Oldman's acting, and the Horse Whisperer) Anyway, Gary's performance is so wonderful! I completely forgot he was Gary Oldman, He was Dimmesdale.... I like Roland Joffe's directing as well. I ramble too much.......hmmm.....lol :)

Gary Oldman did do a good job in this movie, but in real life he's a$$hole. Towards the end of the movie where Gary Oldman is getting beat up by the natives, they were really kicking sh*t out of him. Before they filmed this scene Gary oldman was saying how all natives were f*cking Savages, savages are lazy a$$holes, and savage this savage that.
Here's another little fact Demi Moore had the hots real bad for Gary Oldman while filming this movie.
I know all this because my Step-mothers mother is in this movie.

That's not surprising, really. He was at his lowest point of alchoholism when filming the movie and had to have his lines written on cue cards for him. He (now that he's kicked the booze) says he can't remember making it at all.

I think she felt sorry for him, because Moore's mother was an alchoholic too.

I agree, the only thing I liked about the movie was Gary Oldman. Recently even if he's just in a movie, I like it more. He's a cool guy. Did you know that he never has the same accent in two movies? (well I guess he'll have the same accent in HP5) The movie is nothing like the book, it's weird. There wasn't a thing about Indians and just a small mention of witches. Also, Dimmesdale dies in the book and it was just wrong not to have that in the movie. I don't really like the book or the movie. The book is too long and descriptive. Hawthorne needed more talking between people and less rambling about random details.

Yes, I love the book, but Hawthorne's very wordy. As for the movie, I hate the fact that Hollywood won't let good people have flaws. For example, Dimmesdale. He's a good man, but he's terribly weak. It annoys me that they made Dimmesdale all strong-willed and stuff. And Chillingworth! What was that?! His character got RAPED in the translation from book to film. He retains none of what makes him a truly terrifying character, and that bothers me. Pearl's character was majorly cut, too. She's supposed to be this weird little sociopath, and they don't even have her say anything in the movie.

In my opinion, they should have started where the book did, when Hester's on the scaffold. Then it holds some of the mystery of "Who's her lover?", and there's more time to focus on the actual book in respect to character development.

Needless to say (even though I've said it anyway), I was disappointed by the movie. All the actors did fine and everything, but with all the changes I felt that it lost it's psychological significance. It was supposed to be a psychological examination on the nature of guilt and human sin, and it got turned into the typical Hollywood love story set in Puritan New England.

In real life THEN, you would think Gary was an a$$hole, because he was drunk during like the whole film. When you're drunk you're a rude bastard that you think whatever in your mind you'll say out of porportiaon Gary has got his life back together now, he's not drinking as much, i don't know if you saw a interview with him nowadays but he's a nice guy.
