remake this!

I know this isn't an old movie, but out of all the movies that should ever be remade, this one should be near the top of the list! Minus Demi, her acting skills are that of a tomato. Oldman's, I liked him so can't complain. But seriously, they took the novel and dismantled it, the novel is much better and sadder. So, Hollywood, please remake this! Please!

I wonder, who could play Hester and Dimmesdale in a remake?

I agree! I just read this book in school and I think they need to remake it with younger actors, or they need to make a modern version. I think if they think of a may to make this a modern issue and are able to pull it off, it would be really neat.

I think for Hester, Anna Maxwell Martin from Becoming Jane.

For Dimmesdale, Brian Austin Green from the original 90210.

And I think Hugh Laurie would be neat for Chillingworth.

I don't think you can call it a remake if they make a new Scarlet letter movie. It will be a different adaptation of the book and I sure hope they make one because this one was pathetic.

I, so agree with you. I just watched it again today and I was just thinking that I sure wish that Hollywood or an independent film company would do a closer, better adaptation of the original book. And, leave out the modern liberal, women's lib references except where they parallel the book's theme.

We who enjoy these period movies don't want to watch them to see New Age liberal presentations of 16th Century women. We want to see how life was in the 16th Century.

I vote for a new film.

I don't want to presume but have you seen the Masterpiece Theater Miniseries from YEARS ago, about 'The Scarlet Letter'? I can't remember anybody except Hester was played by Meg Foster(she of the luminous blue eyes) but it was an outstanding production...

Anne Hathaway or Natalie Portman for Hester
Steven Strait or James Marsden for Dimmesdale
Chillingworth is up in the air. Maybe Tom Berrenger or Sean Bean or that creepy Alec Baldwin.

The movie would definately need to keep a lot of the supernatural elements from the book. My favorite scene is the one where Dimmesdale goes to the scaffold and sees the Scarlet Letter in the sky; absolutely bone chilling as well as having the A burned through on his chest.

Also, an updated version has just been released as Easy A. Not exactly the same thing but it does take a more fun, lighthearted take on the story.

I think Ben Whishaw would be perfect for Dimmesdale.
