unrated version

I seem to remember renting an unrated version with extra violence, but I can't find any information anywhere about that version. Can anyone else verify that an unrated version exists.

reply

Not to my knowledge, as far as laserdiscs go they only issued an R-rated version on LD.

I was so sure, but apparently I was mistaken. One reviewer said they thought it lacked gore and I remember it being pretty gory, which further reinforced the idea that I had seen an uncut version. I remember the alley "power suck" scene was pretty nasty.

The alley power suck scene is a nice one, fairly gory in my opinion but that reviewer may have a higher standard than the rest of us. Maybe dated today but I take it over CGI'd effects most of the time.

I prefer physical effects (latex/foam rubber) to CGI as well. I guess that shows my age since I see many negative comments from seemingly younger viewers complaining about "rubbery" effects in older films. It was nice to see good old school effects in Hatchet. If only it had been a good film too. Today's films like The Hills Have Eyes remake are loaded with gore, but they're also impossibly stupid and intolerable. I prefer 80's and 90's films. In Dead Snow, they actually had to use CGI when they didn't want to because their Karo syrup blood froze before they could use it. ;)
