Since when is this film called Scanner Cop II? I've always heard it referred to as Scanners: The Showdown, and even the poster shown displays this title.

Distributors often change titles for different markets around the world, for different types of releases (VHS, DVD, etc.).
shareIf you have the old video or laserdisc release check the end credits, just before it finishes it says "Scanner Cop II: Volkin's Revenge".
shareIn Canada it's called SCANNERS: THE SHOWDOWN. I'm not sure why, maybe Canadian distributors wanted to make people think it was a "Scanners 4" since the first three films are Canadian, but there's been some confusion on SCANNER COP.

Scanner Cop has the same producers involved as before so I can't see why they would question it being Canadian. They probably thought calling it Scanner Cop was too confusing for Scanners fans so reverted Showdown to a Scanners title instead.

Yeah, since the Scanner Cop movie didn't do too great, they tried to tape this SC sequel to the original "franchise" (not that it's a real franchise, but never mind that now) which is f-ing ridiculous since this movie makes barely any sense without the first Scanner Cop movie.
Thankfully, they did release it as Scanner Cop 2 (and not Scanners 4) in most places.
