Just finished Sailor Moon Super S

I take back all of the negative things I said about this season prior.
This season, like all prior Sailor Moon seasons, amended any previous flaws by having an action packed, emotionally charged finale that had you gripping your chair whilst feeling your eyes tearing up.
Strong villains like the Amazon Trio and the Amazoness Quartet also kept every episode highly entertaining, and Lady Nehelinia made for a strong, albeit sympathetic heel. And of course, the soundtrack... I loved the Dead Moon Circus' recurring theme, as well as the Trio's "1,2,3" attack cue,and the Quartet's string-driven theme, which embodied their childlike, mischievous nature.
SM:SS had a lot to live up to following SM:S, and though it took a bit of time getting there, it most certainly exceeded my expectations.

If you liked the way the season ended, I HIGHLY recommend checking out the start of Sailor Stars, which continues the Nehelinia arc and really concludes it. It's like the first 8 episodes of the season, and some of the strongest Sailor Moon stuff.

I am glad you liked it in the end. Fans often take it out on this season, but for the life of me, I always had a soft spot for it. It had a dreamy mood that went hand in hand with the storyline. The manga was far better, though, so maybe people were angry because SMSS did not follow it closely, but took its own approach, and was not afraid to go over-the-top at times. It had its flaws, of course, but the virtues stood out more to me.

Personally, I think the SMSS finale is probably my 2nd favorite. The long, long sequence where Sailor Moon and Chibiusa are falling from the sky towards Tokyo streets was a bravura moment. All the five finales in this anime were great, except maybe in season R - and arguably S (in S, it started great, but the resolution was slightly anti-climatic in my opinion).

By the way, you sure have a way with words, it is a pleasure to read your comments on this anime.

Loved that moment. Very surreal and very stirring. I loved the moment when Nehelina threw Chibiusa over the edge, presumably to her death, and Usagi glares at her defiantly and vows, "We will never lose to you," then promptly swan dives off in pursuit of Chibiusa. A very strong character moment for Usagi, and the voice acting and music totally sold it.

"and arguably S"

I liked the end of SM:S. I am happy that the anime decided to keep Professor Tomoe alive, and turn him into a redemptive character. Worked much stronger than his death in the manga. The problem with the end of SM:S is that it had at least 1 whole episode that was all reconciliation. The confrontation between Sailor Moon and Sailors Uranus and Neptune was a long time coming, but didn't necessarily warrant an entire episode.
I start Stars this week! I hope there is some resolution regarding both Sailor Saturn and the eventual fate of Sailor Pluto...

It was okay. But I would have preferred a theme music power up in the final battle like in previous seasons.
