Macchi MC.205V Veltro??

The fighter plane that appears in the movie, is that a Macchi MC.205V in ICBAF colors??

That would really amazing if anyone can confirm it, and tell me how they got that machine into the movie.

The aircraft is most definitely not a North American P-51D Mustang as stated. Nor is it a Macchi MC.205V Veltro.

It is in fact a Fiat G-59-4B, a postwar fighter-trainer that was owned and I assume in this film flown by the late Guido Zucholli, who was a well known warbird collector in Australia (where this film was made). The aircraft was Italian built and had a Rolls Royce Merlin engine, hence the reason it sounds much like a Mustang. It was also originally built with two cockputs and Guido flew it in that configuration for many years before modifying it to the single cockpit config so it looked more like a wartime Italian fighter. It flew in Italian Air Force markings, and so is not quite right for this picture having a german pilot, but it is closer than the P-51B/C that was used to represent the Bf109 in the original 1943 version. Guido was killed in an accident in 1997. His wife Lynn still runs his collection I believe but I also believe the Firat was sold to the USA a few years ago. I hope this clears it up.
