James Belushi was awful

Perhaps the least convincing authority figure/hero/protagonist I have ever seen in an action movie. Whenever he opened his mouth you could see a lightweight actor trying to project a dependable tough guy image, and failing miserably every time as far as I am concerned.

I must disagree.

I disagree as well. I thought he did quite well as the sgt. A worthy remake of the original. JB provided something a bit different than HB. Caveat would be I doubt any modern actor can provide the raw toughness of what is was like to be a working man in 1940s America like HB did.

I agree, the role of sgt Gunn wasn't suited to him. They should of used someone who could muster up a bit more screen presence.
Overall I still enjoyed the movie though

reply

Totally disagree, I thought Belushi was great.

I thought Belushi was excellent in this film

Short Cut, Draw Blood

Belushi had the unenviable task of playing an old Humphrey Bogart role, and did as well as anyone could.

I just DVR'd it again, and am looking forward to watching it for at least the fourth time

Wait here. I get dressed, I kill them, I come back.

I am totally with the OP on this! The first 20 minutes "I thought man this guy has no acting ability" many times. Some of the scenes where he yells were comic!
