Sabrina should have chosen David

It was obvious! They completely ruined things by letting her fall for Linus. The guy is selfish and dull (well played by Harrison).

I know it may have gone against the original, but Linus is totally unsympathetic.

Althought Kneer's David was a charming guy as he was supposed to be, Linus is the man! And well played by Ford! Charm, attraction, and sympathy, Linus/Ford has it all. Like David said he is the less Larrabee in ... everything.

"It's all about small stuff. You know, small lies, small mistakes."

If we were discussing the original version, I would say Sabrina should have chosen David. The chemistry between Audrey Hepburn and William Holden was excellent in the film while Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart had NO chemistry. I guess the off-screen romance between Hepburn and Holden helped.

But since we're discussing the remake, Sabrina and Linus ending up together is perfect.

Agreed. That last speech of Linus's makes me tear up. Who wouldn't forgive him and fall in his arms?

yeah, I loved the apology speech of Linus at the end where he utters back Sabrina's "love confession" to him (when she thought he was David) a year ago. So sweet. Goes to show that Linus already cared for her (even though it was platonic) and thought about her even then. Definitely far better than David who didn't even realize she existed until she came back from Paris all glammed up.

I can't agree with that. David seemed like a dream for the whole first like five minutes of the movie. As soon as he put the flutes in his back pockets, he turned me completely off.

I'm not sure what the problem with Linus was. He was just lonely and he worked all the time and most of all he did his best to make up *beep* stories to save David's ass and make him look like one hell of a guy. Their mother made sure he did all he could to keep David out of trouble.

Linus isn't perfect though. Far from it, seriously nobody is perfect even in movies. For every wrong that David did, Linus did to cover up for David or he just did his own wrongs for whatever reason he saw fit.

Both of them were wrong in how they treated Sabrina. The only difference is Linus clearly had always cared about Sabrina even before she went to Paris. David had just started to care about her after she came back from Paris all grown up without her glasses and her shorter hair EVEN though he was ENGAGED to be married to that doctor...At least Linus was single and not about to make a commitment to a woman.

Anyway, I guess for some Sabrina's, men like David Larrabee are the guys for them, but for other Sabrina's (such as myself *g*), Linus Larrabee are the guys for me.

And like sophia2206 already said, "Who wouldn't forgive him and fall into his arms?"

Linus selfish and dull?? Selfish, not imo, dull a little but because he's dull, she shouldn't have fell for him??

David has always been wrong for Sabrina, he wasn't exactly the type of guy she should have crushed on all those years and when she came back from Paris and sees him for the guy he really is, she turned away from him and realized how much Linus actually cared about her.

David was engaged to another woman and was willing to cheat on her with Sabrina, why should she be with someone like that?

"I promise you, before I die I'll surely come to your doorstep"

reply

David is a typical rich loser, lol. Seriously, who'd go for a man like that if it wasn't for the money?

reply

Oh, come on. David was awful. He was a conceited, womanizing rat. He didn't deserve her.

I think you missed the entire point of the story. It was about stepping out of the fairy-tale and finding what you really wanted and needed. It happened for all three of them. Linus learned to live instead of just work. David learned to find happiness in settling down with an amazing woman. And Sabrina learned that real life can be better than the dream world she'd created for herself.

reply

I get the story, but still have to agree with the OP. Both guys are flawed, but Sabrina's first love is much more exciting to me than a stodgy older man who can fake a good time, but there's no proof he's truly capable of it for an extended period of time. There was enough evidence that she had enough of an impact on David to make him change his ways. Sure, he probably wasn't going to be the perfect mate, but it was still better than being with a man (Linus) who conned his way into Sabrina's life.

reply

I don't see where you get that at all!! haha

David is a spoiled, selfish, womanizing man, though still charming and nice. He is only Sabrina's "dream guy" she idolized as a young girl/teen/young woman. She only saw him from afar, she didn't see the bad, immature qualities.

Linus seemed this imposing, dull guy to her, as again, she was a young girl. She couldn't know his lonliness or why he came across as a jerk.

As a grown up woman, she was able to see David's immaturity, and see the good things about Linus. She was able to make an adult decision.

Like someone else mentioned, David was also engaged and willing to cheat on her just because Sabrina's new look intrigued him.

Linus learned to be more fun, David learned to gain some responsibility, and I think everyone got to be with "the one" at the end. Perfectly good ending to me! :)
