opinions on remastered BFI dvd/blu ray?

Just bought the recently issued BFI remastered dvd/blu ray.
I have always loved this film,I have the previous dvd and the book about it.

Of course I will watch it eventually but I wonder if it is really an improvement on the original dvd?

The BFI (British Film Institute)is issuing lots of these dvd/bluray remastered dual format editions but I hate buying things I already have for marginal improvements.

Unless the original dvd was an awful transfer then what is the point?
