Where the king's dogs a type of cocker spaniel or a special breed?

They are called Cavalier King Charels Spaniels. I know this because I have one! :)

I believe the dogs in the film were supplied by Mrs Jenny Hall, owner of Muffity Cavaliers, Crayford, Kent, UK.
I bought a Blenheim Cavalier boy as a family pet from her back in the late 1980's, called "Oliver" or "Olly". I was being tongue in cheek, being Cavalier breed (named for Charles II) but I named him after Oliver Cromwell.
Currently, after Olly's demise through natural old age etc, we bought another Cavalier boy from her in 2004. He's called "Bart" after Bart Simpson. He's doing well and is very friendly, with his wagging tail a continuous feature.
Funny enough, we now live in Oman and it's freaky cos the local Arabs are scared of him and give him a wide berth wherever we go !!

These little dogs are reported to be very good natured, good with children, playful and terrific companions. They have such expressive faces and big eyes---just the cutest little canines....next to my tiny Chihuahua, that is! I would love for a King Charles spaniel to own me one of these days.
