Actors actually speaking the languages?

Were the actors, particularly the Chinese ones, actually speaking the languages? If not, then the dubbing was excellent. Only once did there seem to be obvious dubbing when one of the voices got deeper then switched back again.

I'm also impressed that a Chinese director got the quality of acting out of actors speaking different languages. Kudos for using authentic languages.

i thought they were. I know it was very good Russian, well it sounded like it atleast

I'm fluent in Chinese and it sounded pretty legit. The accent was rather academic chinese and not the kind of stuff you'd hear from kids from those provinces or with their backstory.

Indeed. The whole cast spent months learning Russian, as the director had required. There was also a TV series with the same story but different cast, featuring some of the most famous Chinese actors. The cast of the TV show also learned Russian.

Die fetten jahre sind vorbei.

But I should say the actors who spoke German had a terrible accent, it was mostly very difficult to understand. I liked this film, but the german general who speaks lousy german was disruptive for me. Sorry to say.
