Who do u think for Oscar; best portrayal of Satan?

(Thread idea stolen from the End of Days board)

John Glover, Brimstone. (Totally. Was my first thought when i saw the title thread over at the End of Days board. That was a GREAT show. Buffy caught on and got big just after this show was cancelled, I think if it had come out later, it would've lasted longer on Buffy's coat-tails. Maybe a re-boot and an airtime after Supernatural?)

Tim Curry, Legend. (loved this movie as a pre teen. Classic devil. Horns an hooves, Tim Curry voice, liked killing unicorns, evil. 'Nuff said.)

Peter Stormare, Constantine ("I have stocks." Awesome line, creepy, petty AND had the bonus fly/float thing. And his nickname was 'Lou'.If you had Constantine's balls, that is.)

But my number one is still... (evil drumroll pls):

Viggo Mortensen, Prophecy. (if you haven't seen it, go find it. Viggo was an unknown at the time, but my friends and I all sat up and went "Who's THAT!? CREEEPY HOT in a disturbing, frightening way. Fun movie if you can ignore some mildly dated effects and like that kind of film.)

good list :)

i'll add robert de niro as "Louis Cyphre" in angel heart (say the name as one word :P )

Al Pacino: The Devils Advocate... Bar None

Any other choices are SADISTS!

You had great choices. I'd also point Emil Jannings in the silent movie Faust, and, especially, Rosalinda Celentano in Passion of the Christ. That chick creeped me out.

Anna Magnani is a force of nature.

Jared Padalecki from Supernatural.

It's the most logical portrayal of Lucifer i've seen.
He's not some giant horned monster, he's not dressed in cliche black, he's young and good looking.
He's the Angel of Light, still convinced of his own purity and power.
He treasures the Earth, and clearly struggles to hold back his hatred of mankind.

However after watching The Prophecy, Viggo is pretty close to how i picture an evil Lucifer, so it depends which you prefer.

That you chose that crap over outstanding performances by Viggo Mortensen, Al Pacino and especially Robert DeNiro saddens me.

"I want a frisbee made of Mexico."

Mark pellegrino was great too.

reply

Huh, I wouldn't have considered this previously but the points you make are accurate. I'll have to give this another watch. :)

It saddens me when someone can't have an open mind without being full of judgmental pretension. (to the comment in reply)

A tie between Robert De Niro and Rosalinda Celentano.

I vote for Elizabeth Hurley in Bedazzled.

Not only was it a great representation of how Satan would sucker you in with a bunch of lies...but she was hawt!

Excellent choice!

Will somebody get this big walking carpet out of my way?!

#1 De Niro - Angel Heart

#2 Pacino - Devil's Advocate

My body's a cage, it's been used and abused...and I...LIKE IT!!

reply

De Niro nailed it.

My vote goes for Terence Stamp in "The Company of Wolves".
Great Freudian dreamlike movie by Neil Jordan, Stamp is fantastically cast as the devil.

reply

Stamp is always great at what he does, but he had, like, three lines of dialogue. Not enough performance time to be considered for “the greatest.” Re Tim Curry in Legend: best physical portrayal of the classic Old Scratch, but he’s not The Devil. When he’s about to die, he calls on his Father for help. He’s the son of Satan. Pay attention, people! And what about Jack Nicholson in The Wiches of Eastwick? I’d rank him third, behind De Niro and Pacino. Gabriel Byrne gave a very menacing turn as Lucifer in End of Days, and Emmanuelle Siegneur turned in a pussy-filled Devil in The Ninth Gate. The Prince of Lies can take any form he likes.

I agree with Viggo.

I just loved how cool and collected he was...The lines always stuck with me also:

Lucifer: I can lay you out and fill your mouth with your mother's feces, or we can talk.

Lucifer: You see, I'm not here to help you little bitch because I love you or because I care for you, but because two hells is one hell too many, and I can't have that.

Lucifer: Little Tommy Daggett. How I loved listening to your sweet prayers every night. And then you'd jump in your bed, so afraid I was under there. And I was!

I really did like Jared in Supernatural's also...I just found that he gave Lucifer a feeling of being real. Not just Pure Evil ... but Love, Pain and Anger too.

I haven't watched this movie in years and I just sat down for a repeat on it and THAT line really stood out to me. I love it!
