Why would the bullies mess with him after they see him make spoons dance

Doesn't make any sense. If the guy has physic abilities then bullying him seems like the last thing you would want to do.

Maybe because bullies are stupid by their very nature? Dunno. :)

reply

I agree, look at the kids that shot up Columbine school.

reply

To be fair, those kids were actually quite smart. Can't say the same for the ones who bullied them.

Y'ever see a dog going after a porcupine, he keeps biting and biting, trying to get to meat & just getting hurt by the quills, and he keeps adding dozens more to the dozens already stuck in his muzzle, but because the hurt keeps coming, he just gets madder and madder, more unthinking, in more of a blind rage & he simply cannot stop going after the porcupine.

Same principle...

I think it was because they sensed he wouldn't physically fight back. Bullies are very good at detecting weakness. That scene where the one bully was nearly killed by lightning doesn't count, because he didn't "make" it happen; the lightning was just attracted to him for some reason, and the bully happened to be too close. I think they kept at him because they sensed a perceived "weakness", IE his non-aggressiveness.

I did notice that they mostly backed off (aside from a few verbal jabs) until the hunting trip and that scene in the gym. And I think I know the reasons for those two occasions.

1. John had a gun in his hands, a powerful and dangerous object, and it made HIM feel powerful. He might not have SHOT Powder on purpose, but I think it gave him courage.

2. Powder brought up a painful memory of John's stepfather, peeking at a very private and damaging memory, and he spoke that memory in front of everyone. Anger, humiliation and pain overrode good sense.

Okay, I tend to over-analyze, but this movie made me think. XD

I found this odd too.

reply

I guess the bullies didn't think about that, most times they don't have a heart and just don't think before they act. If I saw a person in my class making spoons dance I would leave him be and be nice to him no telling what else he can do.

Because nobody saw "Carrie." Just like no character in a zombie movie's ever seen a zombie movie (excepting maybe parodies).

Speaking of which, in "The Walking Dead," how come no one ever uses the "Z" word? They're walkers, skin-eaters, but never zombies. Is the word trademarked?

reply

They made an active decision not to whennwrotjng the show. They didn't want to be held by "zombie canon".

Because cruelty rarely coexists with intelligence or logic. And teenagers are relentless and impulsive.

reply

Bullies bully what they fear because it makes them feel stronger.
