Rank the Disney Princesses in terms of popularity

Rank the 10 official Disney princesses in terms of popularity with the general public. This is my opinion:

1.)Cinderella- She is pretty much seen as the "leader" of the princesses and a huge icon for Disney. I have never seen princess merchandise that doesn't include her plus she has a ton of solo merchandise herself. Her fairy tale is the most famous/iconic as well.

2.)Ariel- It was close between her and Cindy but Cindy wins by hair or so. Still she is very popular and might have the most solo merchandise of all the princesses. She is the most relate able princess in terms of her situation.

3.)Rapunzel- She has become very popular. Disney did a great job with her story never thought much of the original fairy tale but they did a great job with it.
She is very similar to Ariel in her situation so that makes her relate able as well.

4.)Belle- I think Rapunzel has beat Belle in terms of popularity but she is still very popular.

5.)Aurora- She is very popular because she wears pink most little girls favorite color. Plus I have heard a lot of people say she is the most beautiful and princessy looking of them all.

6.)Tiana- She is pretty popular and seems to have taken the token minority role from Jasmine. She is definitely a strong character!

7.)Jasmine- She has always stood out in the line up because she is not the title/main character in her film and only sings a duet. She has always come and gone on the merchandise and like I said Tiana is featured more than her now. But she is still very popular and I know a lot of black and Indian girls love her.

8.)Mulan- Despite her not appearing on a lot of merchandise she is a very popular character and a lot of people like her.

9.) Snow White- She appears on and has a lot of merchandise but I don't think the majority of people care too much for her. But she is the first princess so they can not have her in the line up.

10.) Pocahontas- A lot of people blame her film for ending the Disney Renaissance and her design is so different than the other ladies so she is featured the least on merchandise.

That's my opinion lol I am bored with nothing to do atm so I came up with this list. What is everyone else's thoughts/opinions?

Great post, and I agree w/ many of your points. I totally agree that Pocahontas is the least favorite for the exact reasons you stated, which is unfortunate cuz she's my favorite--I love American History, and I love how she's an athletic and independent woman. She could kick all the other princesses' butts. Also, the movie was more "serious" and less fun, so her popularity suffered with fans.

I disagree about Snow White being so low though. I think her, Cinderella, and Aurora--all the "classic" princesses from the older Disney era, are pretty popular. They're just hard to argue against. Snow White was the first, and her story is still very popular. Cinderella is the "quintessential" girly princess, and also a popular story. Aurora is more of the "glamorous"/classy princess, which is appreciated.

I agree--Ariel is the most likable of the modern Disney era, cuz she's so spunky and headstrong. Belle is popular for being dignified and strong and deep, with her story. Jasmine is sexy, lol.. and exotic. I totally agree that Mulan has managed to be well-liked, prolly cuz of her "tough girl" warrior status... and it was a likable movie.

I agree that Tiana is gaining the lead in the "most popular ethnic princess". Sorry, that's a terrible title to invent, ha. Her sensible, career-oriented personality and more modern setting (1920s), gives her contemporary edge. I personally don't like Rapunzel much, cuz the songs in her movie were boring--but I do think she's doing well. She's likable, if not memorable. But it's too early to tell.

Back to Pocahontas--she suffered from a weaker movie, so fans aren't too keen on her. But she's definitely of the most exotic, strongest, and most beautiful princesses.

My .02

1) Cinderella--Her story is the most iconic and memorable, even beyond Disney. Look at the many Cinderella remakes out there.

2) Aurora/Briar Rose--She's right behind Cinderella in terms of merchandising for being a classic beauty. Heaven forbid if you don't see Cinderella (which is rare) you definitely see Aurora.

3) Snow White--Yes, she may not be as popular with newer generations, but she's still a classic icon--and they retell her story in other versions, also.

4) Belle--Arguably, she could be no 3, but I'd rate her nearly tied, with Snow White edging her out due to being classic. You see her often on merchandise, and many girs like her signature gold dress.

5) Ariel--She's definitely the most relatable, and you see her almost as often as Belle, but you definitely see more Belle than Ariel.

6) Jasmine--Perhaps it might seem Tiana is being pushed more perhaps due to Jasmine's background and the tension with the people of her background, but I'd argue Jasmine still edges out Tiana due to her long hair, medium complexion, and attire.

7) Rapunzel-- She's gaining popularity, but hasn't edged out the top 6 yet, since she still fairly new. Her design being 3-D is a bit awkward compared to the 2D characters.

8) Tiana--She's beautiful, but I think by being darker skinned than jasmine still gives Jasmine a wider appeal to all groups.

9) Mulan--Yes, she's tough, but not a traditional "girly princess." While it's good to be different, most girls still prefer the girly glam of the top princesses (dressings). And technically, she isn't an actual princess/doesn't become one, which might limit her popularity., She has her audience, but her story isn't as romantic like the others, and her love interest is forced.

10) Pocahontas--As pretty as she is (and even as one of my personal favorites), I agree she's at the bottom for not being a traditional princess (dress wise), and perhaps culturally (as Native Americans don't acknowledge royalty). but mostly because she doesn't stay with her love interest, and of course, the conflicts with historical accuracy.

She is officially part of the Disney Princess Franchise though.

She is a princess. She is a daughter of the Native American chief and in history she is sighted as an American princess many times by the English. She is the only American princess you would think Disney would merchandise her more.

Allright then, like I said, not an expert in this field.

The best disney princess was Sleeping Beauty from Sleeping Beuaty, she was a realy beauty.

1) Cinderella- most younger girls want to dress like her, and she has the most merchandise. I never really understood the appeal.

2) Ariel- I honestly can't stand Ariel, but I know a lot of people love her for her hair and voice, and the fact that she "fought for what she wanted" (but she's not the only princess who did that.?)

3) Belle- A lot of people like her, usually for her intelligence. And her movie is really popular.

4) Jasmine- I really don't know what to say about Jasmine, I just know that a lot of people like her.

5) Mulan- she has a strong fanbase with my Asian friends, lmao (I'm Asian too, stahp). We all went to an anime convention dressed up as Mulan characters, people loved us.
Anyway, lot of people like her for being a warrior and "strong." But a lot of people also complain about her not being a "real princess," and how she doesn't deserve to be in the princess line, so idk.

8) Aurora- she's not very popular with people my age, because they see her as a "passive princess" who did pretty much nothing in her movie. Can't really blame her though, she was put under a spell. She was only in 18 minutes of her movie anyway, I don't think we got to know her character very well. But I know a lot of little girls who love dressing up as her.

9) Tiana- Tiana's a hard worker and is pretty inspirational, I think she deserves a lot more love than she gets. But her movie isn't really as popular as the other princess movies, and I admit it was kind of bland.

10) Snow white- She's popular with older people, since her movie is classic, but most little kids I know just judge her by appearance and say she's ugly, lmao. A lot of people are also annoyed by her voice. I honestly think Snow white is adorable, but I never had the desire to dress up as her when I was young. (I'm actually not quite sure about having Snow White this low on the list, but I knew that she wasn't more popular than Aurora, and I'm not sure if she's more popular than Tiana or not)

I don't know how to order Pocahontas, Rapunzel, or Merida, because they seem to get mixed reactions.
-People dislike Pocahontas's movie for being inaccurate
-People either love Merida for being a "strong young woman," or hate her for the way she treated her mother in the movie.
-I have no idea what people think about Rapunzel. Some people I know think she's bland, but she seems to get a lot of merchandise, and I see a lot of little girls dressed up as her.

1.)Cinderella- Yeah, I agree with everyone. I think she is the most popular. I think it's because she's the one most seen as a real, true princess. Also, she was one of the first tropes of lonely girl meets her prince and falls in love. Maybe she even invented it? Her dress, her fairy grandmother, the pumpkin turning into her coach. It's kind of the first thing ya think about when you hear Disney.

2.)Belle - I think Belle is very popular. As a kid, I remember girls really loved Belle because they related to her. She was intellectual and strong willed, but romantic at heart. Plus the music was really good and EVERYONE hates Gaston.

3.)Ariel- She's popular because she wore barely any clothes and because she was a redhead. Most of all, I think this movie is so popular because of the music. Plus there were other great characters in this movie who were fun.

4.)Snow White- I don't think she's as popular as the others because the movie is rather old. However, she isn't forgotten because she was the first. Sometimes it seems like she is considered as being the most beautiful.

5.)Aurora- I don't think she's very popular among young people. However, I've noticed older people love Sleeping Beauty.

6.)Tiana/Jasmine- I don't see too much of these two, but I think they are becoming more popular. I remember as a kid Jasmine was fairly popular because a lot of kids thought she was the prettiest out of the lot of them.

8.)Mulan- She's actually on a lot of merchandise. However, I think as a character by herself, I don't think she's a favorite, but I know a lot of people like the actual movie though.

9.)Pocahontas- Unfortunately, going against the grain has it's disadvantages. She's pretty much not even considered a princess. However, she's always been one of my favorites. I think the message of the movie is the best out of any of them and I like the theme of our environment being important to everything around us and that we are all connected and everything should be treated with respect. I don't think she's very popular unfortunately.
