Kocoum a Villain?

I went to a website that lists all the Disney Villains, and Kocoum was listed as one of them. Would you agree with that? I mean he was trying to attack John Smith, but I think that's because he thought John would attack him.

reply

No, it's because John Smith took his girl. I think he tried to hurt John Smith out of jealousy.

reply

Oh okay, so in that case, I guess he was a villain.

reply

I didn't really think of him as a villain.

reply

you certainly lack a brain of your own, don't you, op?

reply

He's Gaston, only not rude, arrogant, and he's nicer. I think the best way to describe him would be as a tragic villain of circumstances.

reply

why the *beep* are you replying me?? reply to the op!!!

reply

Umm... I dont understand why are u being rude with the op?
Sorry im just curious...

reply

I don't think he's a villain at all. If you saw some strange guy kissing the girl you were going to marry, you would probably try to kill him too. To me that's legitimate jealousy.

reply

sadly that makes him the "savage" John was calling them at first that upset Pocahontas which does make him a villain. Pocahontas did not want to marry him and it was obvious.

reply

No..he's not a hero, but I wouldn't think of him as being a villain either.

reply

Kocoum was never intended to be a villain. He serves as an antagonist to Smith/Pocahontas' relationship, but he also does care for Pocahontas. He sees the new settlers with hostility, but it's completely understandable, considering the settlers' behaviour. The directors even states this in the audio commentary.
