Possible goof on the two strains of virus

I'm going on memory here, but I think I'm right. In the movie they say that the guy who died in the pet store had one strain of the virus, and the guy who spread the infection at the theater (remember, he was infected from the pet store guy's blood) had another strain. They then say that the two infections happened too close together for the first strain (pet store guy) to have mutated before infecting theater guy, therefore the host must be carrying both strains. Here's the problem with that: theater guy never came into contact with the host, he was directly infected by pet store guy's blood, and since pet store guy only had the first strain, how could theater guy contract the second strain through contact with his (pet store guy's) blood?

IIRC, the virus mutated with the moron at the theater who doesn't know how to operate a centrifuge.

But I remember them saying that the monkey was carrying BOTH viruses, and therefore if they caught the monkey they would be able to cure both the airborne and non-airborne strains.

You're right I believe. We've watched this quite often and think that this didn't make any sense.

The host scratched the pet store guy, it had been eating so there was likely saliva on it's paws.

Pet store guy got scratched by the host.
