Outbreak=6,6 / The Stand=7,6 WTF ???????????

I don't get this. The excellent "Outbreak" has a 6,6 IMDB rating and Stephen King's (at best) mediocre "The Stand" rates 7,6 ??

It was down to 6.4 today. I was surprised it was that high. The '1' I gave it sure won't help. The penultimate worst film of the decade, surpassed only by AIR FORCE ONE.

what do you criticize about the film?

"The penultimate worst film of the decade, surpassed only by AIR FORCE ONE."

You posted in 2011, so that would make the decade between 2001 and 2011. Neither Outbreak nor Air Force One are from that decade - Outbreak was '95 and AFO was '97. They're from that other decade.

^As you stated, both films were released in the 90's, which was the decade I was referring to. I didn't think I had to spell it out.

It doesn't change the fact that they're both awful.

reply

you havent seen many movies from the 90s have you?

I fully agree with this - check out Nothing But Trouble, Raising Cain, Cabin Boy or The Mangler for much better "worst" films from that decade.

Personally I thought The Stand could never be beat as the worst King TV adaptation, then I saw Langoliers and NBC's The Shining. Each of the three featured cardboard cut-outs rather than flushed out characters, and the only thing scary was the pacing. Several hours of cornball and melodrama, not one of compelling television. Tremendously disappointing.

I gave Warning Sign a 7/10, while Outbreak got a 6 for not showing the townspeople's POV on the situation and using the cliche "MILITARY BAD" subplot.

Goes from a 6.5 to a 7.0 for me because of JT Walsh's uncredited speech as Chief of Staff.

Because the Stand while not perfect is a fantastic story told by King and apart from a few bad casting decisions it was enjoyable.

I love outbreak and The Stand is King's finest book (wait for the new R rated movies that are in the works to adapt The Stand it will be fantastic).

Different movies though, Outbreak is a great disease movie, The Stand just uses a disease as the starting step to the actual story.

I think reading the book helps a lot.

My favorite disease movie is 28 Days Later, mainly because the victims resemble zombies and I love a good zombie movie.

I like a god zombie flick too, but I like this movie because it seems pretty unique. I can't find any other good non-horror movies about an infection. One that doesn't cause people to go crazy.

There needs to be more non-zombie movies about a spreading epidemic viral infection. Outbreak sets a nice bar and it shouldn't be too difficult to outdo.
