appropriate for school?

hey, my english teacher needs a good movie about othello to show some of her classes. She found one, but it didn't work because there was too much sex stuff. i saw that this was rated R, so i don't know. is there any of that stuff in this one? it was recommended by people on the I Need To Know message board. thanks!

It's been years since i saw it, but i do remember a sex scene that i'm thinking was fairly explicit. I guess it would depend on the age of the people watching. Maybe a quick fast-forward if it's too age-inappropriate.

we actually just watched this in my english class a few days ago. There are two sex scenes in the movie. the first is a random couple humping in like a carriage thing, but you don't see anything. Then Othello and Des have sex and you see her boob for like...5 seconds

reply

theres one questionable scene between des and othello, but thats it...the other is a soldier humping a whore on top of a carriage during a scene between iago and roderigo

I actually first saw this movie in my Gr 12 English class. I would say if you think your class is mature enough to watch a sex scene and not giggle inanely this shouldn't be too bad. Its a great movie but I think it depends on your age and maturity level (like any other movie).

i saw it in my shakespeare class- all highschool kids. no big deal. its just a boobie.

My school showed it to our grade in year 11 (when we were studying the play). I went to an all-girls selective school, generally more mature than your standard co-ed high, so there were no real problems with the brief nudity/sex scene for us.

We just started watching it in my Shakespeare class, with 10th grade and up. Nothing really too bad about it. It was kind of a "If we read about it, why couldn't we see it?" thing. Plus, it wasn't even too graphic

we were taken by our english department in grade 7 when it came out, it was pretty intense for 12-13 year olds but ultimately good. also taken to richard III the next year i remember. we had good excursions :)

My English class just watched it, and we're year 10. It was fine, I mean we've all had sex education and stuff. How old is your class?

I am an English teacher and have shown clips of this movie while reading the play.
The "sex scene" is right at a part of the dvd where you can hit the fast forward (next chapter) button once and it skips through the graphic part.

I would take advantage of this film -- it is a very well done version of this must see play!

well, after we were done with our semester tests( with over an hour left) our english teacher showed some of it. It came to the sex scene and you saw her boob, and he was like, well crap. He didn't really care. I would consider him fairly liberal tho.
