Ludovico

I thought that the casting and portrayal of Ludovico was absolutley horrendous. In all of the Shakespeare tragedies, someone always shows up at the end and clears things up. For example, in Hamlet, Fortinbras comes in and takes over as king after Hamlet, his mother, and the king are killed. Ludovico is usually portrayed as very powerful and is physically imposing. However, in this adaptation of Othello, he is extremely whimpy, and could even be considered gay with all the shiny garb he's wearing. Does anyone else agree?

We just finished watching Othello in my Senior English class. My kids and I laughed hysterically every time Ludovico appeared onscreen. Watch the scene near the end where Iago greets him and Ludovico says, "I thank you". His lips don't move. I've ended every class with that line cued up. The kids leave class happy.

The guy that played him is a great actor, but for some reason they gave him an absolutely horrendous appearence. awful.

Agreed! Michael Sheen is a brilliant actor. It's not his fault he was miscast in this role!

Add this to the insult...it's the same guy that plays Lucian - the head Lycan in the Underworld films. Bit of a difference in character portrayal huh?
