This is it? A music video?
I mean, it rocked, but man i'd live to see a full length movie of this.
I think that the intention of this music video is to give a glimpse into Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli world and universe.
The different ideas that pop up in this film are just snapshots of what happens in his other movies. Therefore there isn't much of a need for a full-length film.
As Miyazaki has already explored these ideas, including Humans Vs. Nature (environment is threatened) and the trademarked flying, there is simply no need to make a film out of this. It is perfectly fine as a thumbnail that briefly looks upon the surface and beautiful deatil of animation. This critically suggests that this is a short film (glimpse) that you may come across every day of your life.
And after reading about the reality of the Chenobyl nuclear power station meltdown crisis, I think this film depicts that, if regarded as a daily thing (the idea of repetition is repeated in this film), that the problems caused by such a tragedy are still with us today, causing radiation poisoning, death, and ultimately hope, which the 'angel' represents.
Still, there are a lot of interesting ideas to explore. Who are the cultists and what did they do to deserve execution? How did the angel girl get her wings and who was she before she got them? What happened to the police officers who helped her after they escaped? All kinds of questions like these. Plus a chance to get some very awesome music from Hisaishi or somebody, which is always a good thing.
shareWhat's wrong with Whisper of the Heart? At a glance it may looks like a stupid chick-flick, but if you look closely there are many beautiful scenes that makes it worth buying.

I didn't know it came with Whisper of the Heart. I rented it and watched the bonus DVD, but I didn't see On Your Mark there.
Oh well. Whisper was worth watching on its own, anyway! Even though it does seem like a chick-flick at first...

Actually "Castle in the Air" is the official English version of the film, also by Chage and Aska.
