I actually came here to post this very same thing. Although it wasnt quite as good and it was definitely softer and less edgy. But the formula is very very similar. Four adolescents, each with their own issues who go through an adventure together that helps them realize things about themselves and steers the course of their lives. Theres even a kid whose struggling with a death in his family, a pudgy timid kid much more innocent then the other three and... um... well its been over 20 years since Ive seen it so I dont remember much about the other two. But clearly theres similarities.
