Still cant believe Hopkins Didnt win for Nixon.

Its bullshit. Not only did he turn in an epic performance. Based on time alone he shouldve won. 2 1/2 hours plus the strenous script. He had to portray a very complex man and a president from a different country. The sensitivity of the subject wasnt light.

Well I can't believe anyone's still talking about this hokey pile of crap.

The only reason he even received a nomination was because Hollywood's full of earnest left-wing types and this movie was an attack on a horrible evil right-wing republican president.

He looked nothing like Nixon, this movie was ill-conceived from the beginning. The academy weren't lame enough to actually fully laud it by giving it an oscar of any kind.

Movies are supposed to recreate something visually. This one doesn't. Go watch some other stuff and get some taste. Thanks.

I thought Hopkins was great! He is one of the best actors ever. I agree with you completely. It was a great movie and great acting by everyone.

Ehh ... the Academy gives the award to too many actors playing historical figures or disabled persons. No harm in passing on Hopkins that year.

I would have given the award to Sean Penn for Dead Man Walking.

Yea but they usually get it wrong. Do you really believe Daniel Day-Lewis is a three time champion and one of the best actors to ever live or Penn? Lewis shouldnt be in the same room as Lincoln, there will be blood is one of the best performances ever!? I believe it was a good performance and interesting movie but Oscar worthy? Please! Again playing an american where he had no business in doing so. Penn? Milk. Ha, Ha! Im a huge Penn fan but that was hardly one of his best performances. Mystic River? Another of his dud performances. Now of course Hopkins IS one of the best actors ever and should have multiple Oscars but even though he does play an American he really embodies Nixon like no other. I think this role it was the exception. He had Nixon’s soul and transforms to him. Now Hopkins usually doesnt put up such long length roles but for this one he went long on marathon never missing an inch. He truly deserved this Oscar.

Now Cage won this one, a bio-epic, and Im a big Nicolas Fan and this movie was pretty good( Im actually a big fan). But the theme and hardship of the role is nowhere near as Nixon.

Penn’s another one of his duds. Have you even seen Nixon? Ive seen Dead Man Walking several times and never understood the hype. Yes, Im a big Sean Penn fan, but this one wasnt one of his stellars. Yes it was a sad film but Monster was better. Again Nixon’s output and strong controversial yet well done film deserved to triumph over these lesser feebles. Hopkins never gave such a magnificent performance.

I actually have no problem with Cage’s win, I thought he was brilliant, as was Hopkins, Sean Penn didn’t impress me much (he never has apart from Carlito’s Way)

I think De Niro deserved a nod for Casino though.
