Tommy Lee Jones as Nixon ?

Of all actors who were considered for the role Jones resembles Nixon the most. But I don't think he would have surpassed Hopkins. Hopkins is superior actor.

Jones is good in the roles he takes but one thing you'll notice is that he is not good at mimicking other people real or fiction. I can't recall him ever playing a real person and the only time he ever portrayed a character which already existed in fiction he failed miserably- Batman forever. One issue is his voice, he doesn't seem to have the ability to use different accents or voices.

He played Howard Hughes in TV movie (1977) and that was decent performance. But than again he is Texan so accent wasn't a problem.

He looked and sounded nothing like Loretta Lynn's husband Doolittle Lynn.

reply

True on Mr. Lynn -- although he is so obscure to the public that the producers may have figured that Jones' non-resemblance was unimportant.

Good idea.

I think it wouldve been fun and great seeing Toomy Lee Jones as Nixon but somehow this movie wouldnt have been as great without Hopkins giving his top Notch performance.

I agree. I dont think he would've surpassed the Great Hopkins as he is superior.
