Wow....(Spoiler Alert)

Before last night I'd never heard of this movie...it was really late, I couldn't sleep, and I was going through the HBO channels and saw this movie coming on...I hit info and seen that Christopher Walken and Johnny Depp were in it. That immediatly drew me in. Two of my favorite actors in a movie together and I never knew they worked together(I never really cared for Johnny Depp till after Donnie Brasco which was released a year after this.) That being said, I started watching and knew I was going to be awake for at least another 90 min. The story was very clever, and also the twist really blew me away(talking about the govenors husband being in on it.) The acting from the leads was amazing, Depp and Walken were very good together. No one plays an bad guy like Walken, and even though you might hate his character so much, you still can't help but respect him. As for Depp, excellent performance. The emotion he gives through the whole movie really draws you in and makes you wish you could be there to help him yourself.

All in all a very, very good movie. I thought maybe it could've ended a little better. I mean the movie really didn't explain who the old man was with the govenors husband and he's the last person you see in the movie driving off like he really had something invested but there was really no explanation.

Other than that....7/10

Too bad you just heard of it. I saw it in the theater back in 1995 and it instantly became one of my all-time favorites. I truly don't understand why it's not more popular. It should have at least become a cult classic when it was released on video, the same way "Shawshank Redemption" is today.

Yeah, wish I could've seen it sooner. Like I said I never cared for Johnny Depp till Donnie Brasco and back then computers wasn't very popular and I didn't discover imdb till bout 2000. Great movie though.

You were "blown away" by the fact that the husband was in on it? Really? That was telegraphed right from the start.

The old man was someone who helped get her elected (most likely some business tycoon) and thus expected her to be beholden to him and implement policy to favor his business interests. (This, by the way, is exactly what goes on throughout our political system and is generally the root of all of our problems in this country.) According to the dialogue, she didn't do this and instead ran her office according to her own ideology. She wouldn't do these people's bidding and thus they felt they had to do away with her. Hope that clears up the matter.

As for the acting, I thought Johnny Depp was a little wooden. I think he could have displayed more panic, desperation, anxiety, etc. given the predicament he was in. I thought Christopher Walken stole the show. He was perfectly evil and savage.
