The internet didn't work like this in 1995

Those web pages look like game programs, not basic HTML. Take for example her booking her ticket, it's an interactive image of a plane. That would be flash if it were a webpage.

And internet was super slow.

I wonder if this movie inspired web designers to try and make it like a computer program? Not just a list of clickable links.

DHTML has been around for a long time, What you could do with it has long been an issue of your skill and ability, HTML5 lowered the bar of entry, made it easier for people who have no skill to get into webdesign so now we get highly overbloated websites where absolutely everything needs to move.
