The song is pure schmaltz (not one of my favorite Lennon tracks), but damn if I don’t tear up during this scene.
shareIt encompasses the movie perfectly too, specifically the line "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." In fact that is why they chose that song because Mr. Holland doesn't realize the extraordinary life he lead because he was too busy trying to write his symphony that everything he did and everyone he touched was just kind of forgotten.
shareA horrible song horribly sang by a horrible singer. Pure cheesy, overly sentimental scene. I like most of the movie, but I had to fast forward through that scene. I don't like it when movies try too hard to be a tear jerker. It comes off as overly sappy and corny.
