The character would have only been 13 or 14 at that point (the wife became pregnant in 1966) but the actor looked like he was around 30. Plus he must have been around 8 inches taller than Dreyfuss. I understand it would be hard to find a convincing deaf actor at that age, but COME ON.

shareI also thought he looked late teens and I understand why they would use an older actor because the scenes between the father and son are a bit powerful; atleast the scenes seemed intense to me, being about the strain on the parent/child relationship, the death of John Lennon, the mom/wife having to be the ref between the 2.

This movie still make me tear up and it love the talk between Cole and his father about John lennon. Cole was right just because he is deaf doesn't mean he doesn't know music. Deaf has a way of hearing music by turning up the music real loud and sensing the beat.
